Did You Know?
  • •Common seals can dive for over 30 minutes and reach depths exceeding 300 metres while hunting
  • •Unlike grey seals, common seal pups are born with their adult coat and can swim within hours of birth
  • •They have excellent hearing both in water and on land, using it to locate prey and communicate with other seals
  • •UK common seal populations have tripled since the 1970s, recovering from earlier persecution and pollution
  • •Each seal has a unique pattern of spots on its coat, allowing researchers to identify and track individual animals
