Field note

Two goldfinches are clearly identifiable by their vivid red faces, black-and-white head pattern, warm brown upperparts, and the striking bright yellow wing-bar visible on the bird caught mid-flight, which also shows the characteristic pointed wings and forked tail typical of this species.
