Large, dark waterbird swimming on a freshwater body, showing the characteristic long hooked yellow-based bill, pale yellowish throat pouch, dark scaly-patterned upperparts, and the typical low-riding swimming posture with tail slightly cocked — this appears to be a non-breeding adult or immature bird lacking the white facial patch and thigh patches of breeding plumage.
